FAQs

THE GLOCAL MBA was created to solve the biggest problems faced by ambitious, young professionals seeking an international graduate business education:

  • High tuition costs. A top-tier MBA costs +€125,000—more than a house in many parts of the world! These programs last on average 1 to 2 years, a very long time to be out of work and with no salary. Add up the tuition costs plus the lost wages and the price becomes unaffordable for most people.
  • Long time commitment. Before you can even access your 1 or 2-year MBA, you’ll spend nearly another year just preparing for your application (GMAT, TOEFL…).
  • Methodologies driven by exam-taking and rigid grading policies that are not adapted to today’s fast-changing market, where nothing is guaranteed except volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity (VUCA).

This is where THE GLOCAL MBA comes in—to provide an affordable, condensed, high quality, international business education adapted to a new generation of leaders. No GMAT or TOEFL to get in, no exams to graduate, no bureaucracy, no wasting of your time.

Our curriculum presents only the fundamentals you need with a focus on both business training (hard skills) and personal development (soft skills), because both are critical for success in our fast-changing world. We give you a toolkit that can be applied, right away, to any path you take in your life—whether you join a straight-laced firm, a disruptive startup, a social enterprise, or go your own way as a digital nomad.

Full-time MBA

The full-time MBA is an intensive 3-month program designed for ambitious, adventurous young professionals who want both a cutting-edge business education and a transformational life experience to level up.

The program is taught on-site in 3 unique Southeast Asian countries: Indonesia (Bali), Vietnam (the Sapa Valley) and Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur). You’ll spend 1 month in each location while co-living with up to 30 smart and open-minded students from around the world. Together, you’ll pursue a condensed graduate business curriculum designed to give you the most relevant knowledge and skills, broken into 2 blocks: Hard Business Skills (finance, economics, organizational behaviour…) and Soft Life Skills (leadership, communication, creativity, self-awareness…), both designed to expand your abilities and your mind.

We use a blended learning model that combines online masterclasses presented on video by world-class leaders (+ live Q&A sessions with them) and educational materials (case studies, summaries, templates, pdfs, problem-solving exercises, quizzes, short essays…) for the Hard Business Skills Block with face-to-face classes and workshops for the Soft Life Skills Block.

You’ll have 6 one-to-one coaching sessions, wellness activities, volunteering work with local communities, field trips to local companies and epic experiences where you will face your fears and overcome your boundaries.

Both online in the e-learning platform and on-site, you’ll have a program director to guide you through your lessons, answer your questions and push you intellectually. You’ll also benefit from the constant feedback, support and ideas of your cohort. This individualized attention from experts, shared in a small group of likeminded but diverse people, while immersed in exotic new cultures will prepare you to become a leader of consequence and will change your life and your career exponentially!

THE GLOCAL MBA is short enough that you may be able to convince your employer for a leave of absence, but long enough to upskill every aspect of your professional and personal life while undergoing a total mindset shift and building lifelong friendships.

Following graduation from THE GLOCAL MBA, you’ll be ready to be a leader and an innovator, pushing boundaries globally in a wide range of roles and fields, in multinationals, startups or on your own. Once the program is over you will have the opportunity to continue with your coaching sessions through our extension course.

Part-time MBA

THE GLOCAL MBA part-time program offers the best of the full-time MBA but at a flexible pace so you can keep your job. If you are ready to upskill your career, learn the fundamentals of business, build a worldwide network and have a transformational life experience including a 2-week immersion in Southeast Asia, this part-time program is for you.

Our condensed curriculum gives you the most relevant fundamentals of an MBA across 2 blocks: Hard Business Skills (finance, economics, organizational behaviour…) and Soft Life Skills (leadership, communication, creativity, self-awareness…), both designed to expand your abilities and your mind.

During the first 2 weeks of the program you will co-live with a small group of students (your cohort) in Indonesia (Bali) where you’ll get an immersive cultural experience while also starting your Soft Life Skills Block with in-person classes, workshops and 2 out of your 6 one-to-one coaching sessions. Your program then continues online for 5 months, via virtual classes with world-class leaders from business, big tech, entrepreneurship, VC, and more, text-based study resources, 4 online coaching sessions and practical projects. Your GLOCAL home online is the e-learning platform where you can share your projects, engage with your peers, give and get feedback.

In Bali and on the e-learning platform, you’ll work individually and in teams, online and in the field, building lifelong friendships while you build confidence in yourself and gain the tools to lead, drive change and thrive in any professional path you take.

Both online and on-site, you’ll have a program director who will guide you through your lessons, answer questions and push you intellectually. You’ll also benefit from the constant feedback, support and ideas of your cohort—your smart and open-minded peers in the part-time MBA. This individualized attention, shared in a small group of likeminded but diverse people, will help you change your life and your career exponentially.

Following graduation from THE GLOCAL MBA, you’ll have the tools to become a leader and an innovator, to push boundaries globally in a diverse range of roles and fields, in a corporation, a startup or on your own. You will also be able to continue with your coaching sessions once the program is over through our extension course.

The idea of slow travel, or fully immersing in a new culture, completely outside the boundaries of everything you know, is integral to the mission of THE GLOCAL MBA. We believe that by leaving your daily life far behind, you can open your mind in ways you never expected, to new ideas, new perspectives and a new mindset that will last a lifetime.

Where better to do that than Southeast Asia, a culturally rich region of contrasts, with lush landscapes and glittering cities, ancient temples and futuristic skyscrapers. THE GLOCAL MBA leverages all of this to give you the most unique, immersive business education available, in record time.

In addition to your MBA curriculum, full-time students will be immersed into the following cultures.

Bali, Indonesia: Synonymous with paradise—turquoise waters, emerald jungles, ancient temples, lotus flowers, infinite blue skies—Bali is famous for spiritual health and wellness, from yoga and meditation to traditional rituals and world-renowned gurus. During your stay, you’ll complement your business lessons with personal renewal. In Bali, you will slow down, reflect and (re)discover yourself while developing a mindful approach to leadership and soft skills.

The Sapa Valley, Vietnam: Tucked in the lush mountains of northwest Vietnam, the Sapa Valley is home to jade hills, dizzying peaks and ancient villages surrounded by rice paddies. You’ll live in the village of Ta Van among the Hmong people. During your month here, you’ll spend 5 days living with a local family, participating in their daily lives, eating with them and learning their culture. And you’ll give back, dedicating some of your time to teaching English to the villagers. You will also have many opportunities to explore the breathtaking landscape. In the Sapa Valley, expect to have your mindset challenged, to become more flexible and adaptable, to learn empathy and gain confidence as you go way, way out of your comfort zone.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia: The city of the future in Southeast Asia is a hub of high-tech, innovation, entrepreneurship and forward-thinking. Bridging the West with the East, KL brings together diverse cultures in a modern metropolis that never sleeps. Business is big and you will be a part of it. In Kuala Lumpur, you’ll learn to innovate and lead by working hands-on in a local business.

Note: Only the full-time MBA takes place in all 3 locations; the part-time MBA only visits Bali.

Whether you are a leader, project manager, entrepreneur, designer, artist, innovator or digital nomad, whether you work inside a global firm or on your own, regardless of industry, setting or job function, THE GLOCAL MBA is for you if:

  • You want the benefits of an international MBA without wasting money (+€125,000 for tuition and costs of an average MBA), wasting time (1 to 2 years is average length), and wasting energy in the long application process (preparing for the GMAT, GRE or TOEFL).
  • You’re ready to upgrade your career with the most up-to-date hard business skills as well as the most innovative soft skills training, taught by influential business leaders and coaches.
  • You want time to slow down and explore new cultures in Southeast Asia while rethinking your future, leveling up, overcoming your fears, and gaining the confidence and self-awareness to become a mindful leader.
  • You want to meet ambitious, open-minded people from around the world and make lifelong friendships.

THE GLOCAL MBA offers all of this and more. Through practical classes, workshops, coaching and epic experiences, all shared together with an impressive cohort of brilliant international students you will learn, at record speed, to lead, innovate and thrive in today’s evolving and challenging global economy.

At THE GLOCAL School of Business, our goal is to disrupt business education and provide you with a condensed, global MBA that will prepare you to succeed in today’s evolving market.

To do that, we’ve assembled an all-star team of business leaders and tech executives, entrepreneurs and innovators. They share their insights, wisdom and first-hand experience with you via online masterclasses and off-line text materials.

The development of THE GLOCAL MBA curriculum was driven by 3 goals: 1) to provide best-in-class business fundamentals that you can use right away, in any sector, job function or professional goal. 2) to give you the critical soft skills that you need to lead, think, challenge, innovate, influence and communicate in a global economy characterized by VUCA—volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity. And 3) to do this in record time, by focusing only on the hard and soft skills that you really need to succeed.

We use a blended learning model that combines online masterclasses presented on video by world-class leaders (+ live Q&A sessions with them) and educational materials (case studies, readings, summaries, templates, pdfs, problem-solving exercises, quizzes, short essays…) for the Hard Business Skills Block with face-to-face classes and workshops for the Soft Life Skills Block.

The best learning happens when you are pushed out of your comfort zone and that is exactly what will happen every day in THE GLOCAL MBA. Both online and on-site, you will be encouraged to be hands-on and get involved by your program director who will guide you through your lessons, answer questions and push you intellectually. On-site, you’ll get fully engaged and active in epic experiences, group excursions and wellness activities.

Our focus on immersive, interactive, practical learning means that you will not have to pass any exams to graduate. We don’t believe in evaluating students with standardized exams based on memorization, which is an outdated learning methodology not suited to today’s dynamic, changing reality. Rather than studying to pass an exam, you’ll focus on practical projects and learn from your program directors and coaches and from the constant feedback, support and ideas of your cohort—your smart, open-minded, diverse peers. Their unique experiences and cultures will enhance your learning and challenge the way you see the world. The two-way exchange of ideas will open your mind while giving you confidence to share your own viewpoints. Through practical team projects, you will put your new lessons into practice and build even closer bonds with each other. The result is that you’ll really absorb and retain your new knowledge for life (not merely memorize it in order to pass an exam).

Our academics are grounded in case studies, which let you experience the challenges and choices faced by business leaders in real-world situations. Driven by discussion and debate, the case-based methodology is rigorous. It demands critical thinking, active participation and the willingness to accept new perspectives. There is no right nor wrong answer as you learn to solve complex problems and make hard decisions. First introduced by Harvard Business School—and still the main methodology in the Harvard MBA—the case method is the best way to prepare you to become an effective, flexible, global leader.

If you do our full-time MBA, you will also have the chance to learn by doing with local startups and companies. Your local immersion goes even further in Vietnam where you will live with a family from the Hmong tribe in the Sapa Valley. Their lives are based on rice cultivation and hemp cloth production and for 5 days, so will yours. This unique social aspect of THE GLOCAL MBA will help you abandon your own way of life and see things in a totally new light.

The key differences that distinguish THE GLOCAL MBA include:

  • Small cohorts of up to 30 diverse students to maximize the learning experience.
  • The experience of co-living and co-learning in Southeast Asia in order to encourage disconnection, adaptability, critical thinking, openness and collaboration.
  • World-class teachers, coaches and speakers who have real-world experience in big tech, entrepreneurship, VC, wellness and more.
  • A curriculum that is balanced between hard business skills and soft life skills.
  • Short and intensive programming which allows us to constantly update our curriculum so that our students are fully prepared to thrive in VUCA environments.
  • Blended learning that combines online lectures, educational materials and opportunities for community-building with on-site classes, workshops and hands-on experiences alongside your cohort and program directors.
  • No exams to get in, no exams to get out, our program is driven by merit, personal growth and peer-evaluations.
  • 6 one-to-one coaching sessions that guide students in their personal and professional ambitions and the opportunity to continue with the sessions once the program is over through our extension course.
  • Field trips to local companies.
  • Volunteering work with local communities.
  • Wellness activities.
  • Epic experiences where students face their fears and overcome their boundaries.

Of course you could, but you would miss out on everything that THE GLOCAL MBA offers you: a cutting-edge academic experience that will upgrade your professional and personal skills to amplify your career and give you the tools to be a global leader; once-in-a-lifetime epic experiences; slow travel and immersive cultural experiences with local people, including a volunteering experience; 6 one-to-one sessions with your own coach; interaction with business leaders and entrepreneurs; and a community of amazing people who are as driven, passionate and ready to change the rules on what business success means as you are.

Our teachers are global leaders in their sectors—big tech, global corporations, entrepreneurship, venture capital and more. They are innovators and change-makers who are making a difference in the international business world, right now. They have taken time out of their busy schedules to share their expertise with you because, like the rest of THE GLOCAL School of Business, they want to help you become a leader who can thrive in the real world. They bring decades of diverse and disruptive experience to our classrooms. Meet them here.

Accreditation requires a lot of regulation, bureaucracy and strictly defined study plans, all of which means limited flexibility—this is directly against the philosophy of THE GLOCAL MBA. Being un-accredited gives us the freedom to give you the most relevant, tailored and condensed business program possible. Every moment of the MBA is designed to give you exactly what you need to become a future leader, innovator or disruptor within a multinational company or in your own startup. We focus on giving you real, tangible growth, in both your skillset and your mindset—not making you memorize data, check boxes and jump through hoops. Instead of a very expensive diploma proving you can follow standardized rules, you’ll get a private certificate and the confidence to let you define the rules.

Our application process is demanding because we expect a lot from our students during the program and the application is the very first step. The only hard requirements to join our global business school are an undergraduate university degree (or equivalent) and a minimum of 2 years of professional work experience. If you have those, then click the APPLY button and you’ll be asked to choose either the full-time MBA or the part-time MBA. The application form includes answering several background questions, uploading your CV and writing 2 application essays designed to reveal who you are and what you care most about.

After you hit submit, our Admissions team will get to work reviewing your application. If impressed, they will invite you to an online interview.

Following your interview, in just a few weeks, we’ll give you our final decision. If admitted, you’ll become part of an exclusive community of ambitious, adventurous young professionals about to embark on the most intense and exciting educational experience of your lives!

Because our goal is to find the most motivated, bright, intellectually curious, high potential students from around the globe to join our business school, our only hard requirements are an undergraduate university degree (or equivalent) and a minimum of 2 years of professional work experience.

Beyond that, THE GLOCAL MBA’s application process screens for a comprehensive range of traits: intellectual and analytical capabilities; a belief in innovation, collaboration and new ways of thinking; honesty and authenticity; and willingness to embrace new challenges and to question old ways of doing things.

We are seeking people with untapped, possibly unconventional, but definitely undeniable leadership potential. By carefully screening each applicant for these intangible traits, THE GLOCAL MBA can create a dynamic, exciting and enriching community.

THE GLOCAL MBA does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, marital status, physical disability, learning disability, or political affiliation. We seek the best students, no matter where they come from.

No, we do not have much faith in standardized tests such as the GMAT or the GRE. They do not give a true picture of your potential for leadership and success. Therefore, to be open to as many qualified students as possible, we do not require them.

Yes. Both the full-time and the part-time MBA are conducted fully in English. To succeed in the program and be a positive influence on your cohort, you must be fluent in written and spoken English. But don’t worry, you don’t have to take a test such as the TOEFL or IELTS, we will measure your English fluency during the admission process.

No. We admit students based purely on merit. Because an application fee may deter an amazing student from applying, THE GLOCAL MBA does not charge you for applying.

While you can only apply once per academic program, we would be happy to have you reapply in the future.

We believe that the best growth happens in small, supportive, uplifting communities. For that reason, THE GLOCAL MBA cohorts are small, on average just 30 students who come from around the world. We don’t have any geographic quotas or location-based limitations. We seek the best students from all over the world and select diverse cohorts to ensure a lively, enrichening student experience.

Our Admissions team at admissions@theglocalschool.com would love to hear from you. Send an email or use the message feature on our website—just click the speech bubble in the lower right corner of your screen.

We take business education very seriously and our curriculum is designed to give you the most relevant knowledge and skills. Similar to Harvard, Wharton or INSEAD, THE GLOCAL MBA teaches you the hard business skills that will equip you to succeed in your career—finance, strategy, marketing, entrepreneurship and more. See our current Hard Business Skills Curriculum here.

However, being good at numbers and strategy is not enough to thrive in today’s global, always-evolving market which is defined by VUCA—volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity. To navigate and lead in this scenario, you need not only to know yourself, but also to know others. This is where our true distinctiveness comes in—THE GLOCAL MBA balances hard business skills with soft life fundamentals. Through one-to-one coaching, small group work, immersive experiences in Southeast Asia and wellness practices, you will practice leadership, teamwork, emotional intelligence, creativity, communication and negotiation skills, critical thinking and more. These are the traits that modern businesses need most and that are essential to be a successful, mindful global leader.

Above all, THE GLOCAL MBA offers all of this in a condensed, intense format, much shorter than a traditional MBA which lasts 1 to 2 years. We achieve this by focusing solely on the fundamentals and tailoring the curriculum to exactly what you need to become a leader.

See our full list of modules here.

Our MBA students study together, collaborate on projects, encourage each other and push each other to think more, do more and be more. You will travel together, go out of your comfort zone together and build lifelong friendships and global networks.

Full-time MBA

The full-time MBA includes 405 hours of program time (7.5 hours per day) + 6 coaching sessions spread over 3 months and 3 locations—Indonesia (Bali), Vietnam (the Sapa Valley) and Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur)—1 month in each. Program time includes online lectures, in-person classes, workshops and projects, study groups and a field trip to a local business. There are also daily wellness practices such as yoga and mindfulness; and at least once during your stay in each location an epic experience to overcome your boundaries. In a typical day, you may spend the morning in the co-working space completing an online course, have lunch with your cohort while discussing that morning’s case study, attend an afternoon workshop on leadership, have a one-to-one session with your coach, and finish with an evening group study session.

There is a lot to do and a lot to learn and the schedule is tight, so apart from your free time each day and on weekends, we have also planned some downtime. In both Bali and Kuala Lumpur the 4-week schedule is broken into 2 5-day weeks and 2 4-day weeks, allowing you ample free time to travel, explore the area, take side trips, do extreme sports, work on personal habits or projects and have fun. In Vietnam, because the Sapa Valley is so remote, you’ll attend the program 6 days a week for 3 weeks, and then have an entire week off to explore Vietnam. Click here to see the structure of the program in detail.

Part-time MBA

The part-time MBA includes 75 hours of program time (7.5 hours per day, Monday-Friday) + 2 coaching sessions in your 2 weeks spent in Bali; the rest of the course and the coaching sessions are done online during 5 months and last ~180 hours. In Bali, you will participate in soft life skills lectures, workshops, study groups and wellness sessions. Your days will be intense and exciting and give you ample opportunity to bond with your cohort. However, you’ll have time each evening and on weekends to practice new habits, do sports or just rest and reflect. We strongly recommend that you take advantage of your free time to further bond with your peers, for example exploring the island together. Click here to see the structure of the program in detail.

The goal of THE GLOCAL School of Business is to offer fast learning while slow traveling for mindful leaders. Our business curriculum is demanding, high quality and designed to give you the fundamental hard business skills and soft life skills you need to become an effective, global leader in any business or career you choose. But to truly enrich your business education and turn it into a transformational life experience, we offer a range of epic experiences that take advantage of the local culture.

In Bali, Indonesia, both full-time and part-time MBA students, will have opportunities to explore the island’s natural beauty and wellness culture. You’ll experience personal renewal through yoga, meditation and epic experiences. In Bali, you will slow down, reflect and (re)discover yourself while developing a mindful approach to leadership and soft skills.

In the Sapa Valley tucked in the lush mountains of northwest Vietnam, you’ll immerse in the daily lives of the local Hmong people. You may find yourself knee deep in a rice paddy, weaving hemp fibers into fabric, or learning to cook a traditional dish over an open fire. You’ll also give back, dedicating some of your time to teaching English to the villagers. In the Sapa Valley, expect to have your mindset challenged, to become more flexible and adaptable, to learn empathy and gain confidence as you go way out of your comfort zone.

In Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, you will take a deep-dive into the business world of this high-tech city. A hub of innovation, entrepreneurship and forward-thinking, KL will give you the chance to visit business leaders and work with them to solve real business problems. In Kuala Lumpur, you’ll learn to innovate and lead by working hands-on in a local business.

Note: Only the full-time MBA takes place in all 3 locations; the part-time MBA only visits Bali.

Full-time MBA

During the full-time MBA, you can have visitors as long as they do not interfere with your classwork and activities. While program classes and activities are only for students, during your free time and on weekends, you are welcome to spend time with your guests.

Part-time MBA

During the part-time MBA, because we are only in Indonesia (Bali) for 2 weeks, we cannot allow visitors because most of your time will be dedicated to classwork and bonding with your cohort.

Co-living is an integral part of THE GLOCAL MBA experience. Co-living not only lets you build incredible bonds with your cohort and really get to know them, but it also lets you practice collaboration, tolerance and open-mindedness—all critical soft skills for leadership. ‍

In Southeast Asia, you will live with a cohort of up to 30 students—smart and open-minded young professionals from around the world. In Bali, Indonesia and in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, you will stay in a comfortable co-living space equipped with high-speed Wi-Fi, private bedrooms and a shared communal kitchen.

In the Sapa Valley in Vietnam, you’ll spend 5 days living in the humble home of a local Hmong family. The rest of your time in Sapa will be spent in a communal house equipped with private bedrooms and a shared kitchen. Sapa is very rural and remote and that is reflected in the simple housing and facilities; don’t expect the typical comforts of the Western world. However, this unique cultural immersion is an integral part of the THE GLOCAL MBA experience; by putting you way out of your comfort zone, you’ll change your mindset and see the world in a new light.

Note: Only the full-time MBA takes place in all 3 locations; the part-time MBA only visits Bali.

To participate in THE GLOCAL MBA full-time program based in Southeast Asia (Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia) or in the on-site portion of our part-time MBA in Indonesia, you’ll need to have a valid passport from your country that does not expire for at least 6 months after the program ends. For example, the full-time MBA is 3 months long, so when you arrive to your first class on-site, your passport should be valid for a minimum of 9 months more. ‍

Your need for a visa depends on what passport you hold. Please check with the consulate for each country (Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia) well before your travel date. More info can be found here. Remember, you are solely responsible for obtaining your own visas.
